The Kimberley Process in Diamonds

A.E. Köchert only ever processes diamonds that are “conflict-free”. When purchasing an “AEK diamond”, our clients can sleep soundly in the knowledge that their ne w stone originates from legitimate sources. All AEK diamonds have a KP (Kimberley Process) certificate. That means all AEK diamonds are certified as conflict-free.

The Kimberley Process

The Kimberley Process Certification System (KPCS) was created in 2003 by governments, non-governmental organisations and bodies of the diamond industry to prevent criminal elements – rebel groups in the Central African Republic, for instance – from infiltrating the legitimate diamond supply chain with conflict diamonds to finance violence. The Kimberley Process Certification System and the Clean Diamond Trade Act of 2003 created the basis for a global diamond market designed to be totally conflict-free. Today, KP members account for something like 99.8% of global production of uncut diamonds.

Kimberley Process

Participation in the Kimberly Process is confirmed by the vendor in invoices during the sale of uncut diamonds, cut diamonds and diamond jewellery.

The requirement applies to uncut diamonds mined after 31 December 2002, and any products manufactured using these.
